No Problem it was my pleasure.

You mentioned HA with the front end roles (CAS/HT) at the end of the webcast. Any idea when you'll have that available?

Awesome video series. Any possibility of providing a list of items (on the hyper-v host) used to establish this lab?

What happens if the Hyper-V R2 environment is already configured for HA before you build out the Exchange 2010 with DAG?
Dave Kawula on Friday, February 12, 2010 says

Thanks for the comments -- In regards to the question what happens if Hyper-V R2 is already in an HA Configuration.

Really nothing. You just have multiple levels of availability one at the host level and one at the Application level.

If you happen to Live Migrate an Exchange 2010 Server while it is in a DAG configuration -- Nothing will happen to Exchange if configured correctly. You really only loose about one ping when live migrating.

This configuration gives you a lot of options because the Hyper-V Host Servers can be patched at any time.

I hope this answers your question.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the video. Is it possible to get your modified batch file the the prerequisites that were originally missing? I am at josiahkuenzi@gmail.com. Thanks!
Guest on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 says

Hey Dave, in the video it automatically zooms into parts of the screen where ever the cursor is. This cuts off the EMS screen so I can't see the cmdlets you are typing. I need the one from approximately 92:58

Thanks!

Excellent Video! Very informative! The only thing I would like to see in the next video is the commands displayed as a video over lay since they were getting cut of in the pan.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Dave,

I'm using Hyper-V R2 to setup DAG lab. I created DAG and I added one mailbox role into DAG, but when I added the second mailbox role. The issue occured. I always got the error message 'Unable to contact the Cluster service on other 1 members (servername) of the database availability group.' via local powershell. And got the error message 'The Microsoft Exchange Replication service does not appear to be running on "servername".

Pls hepl me.

Thanks

Just send me an email at dkawula AT triconts.com -- I can have a quick look at your configuration for you.

Sounds like you are stuck and I am going to be up for a bit tonight so if you want me to have a quick look try and get back to me quickly.

Dear all,

Today i'm so happy bc i found the problem that is we need to change SID for each machine. Note you can not use NewSID software on Windows Server 2008 R2, you need to run sysprep on windows.

This is step by step to change SID on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7

First, click to Start->Run, type sysprep and press OK.

This will open sysprep folder which is located in c:\Windows\System32. Open sysprep application.

This will open System Preparation Tool 3.14 window. As a System Cleanup Action select Enter System Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE). Important: select Generalize if you want to change SID, it’s not selected by default. As Shutdown Options select Reboot.

It will take some time for sysprep to finish, so grab a cup of coffee and wait.

After rebooting you’ll have to enter some data, for example, Country or region, Time and currency and Keyboard input.

Now you can again use PsGetSid to check that your OS has new SID.

Have a good time.

Phi.

Hi Phi,

I'm curious as to your method of diagnosing this. The reason I say this is that Mark Russinovich wrote a blog which suggested that SID duplication is not an issue - http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2009/11/03/3291024.aspx

With this in mind, i'm curious as to if you can fundimentially prove that this is an issue with the machine SID.

Cheers,
Jon

Realy i like this video so much because even before i dont know how to configure exchange server 2010. But due to you hard work i am able to configure even basic level also. Keep it up GOD BLESS U .

Hello Phi,

I've got the same reservation as Jon. I'd like to add that if non-unique SID's are really the cause, this, although not good for his reputation, is something Mark would really like to know.

I encounter 'The Microsoft Exchange Replication service does not appear to be running on "servername"issue.
The trick to fix this is to add Exchange Trusted Subsystem group into every Exchange and Witness server Administrator Local group
