Technology can be scary! But the people in Forensics at our local municipalities, WTF!?!?

It was almost like the local police department said, “oh your good with computers, we got this grant money to spend, go take this class.” Some in the class did not have a lab, nor purchased any forensics software or used open-source stuff. Why are you in the advanced class?

Heads down in the trenches! or is it actually dying down?

Is the shine starting to wear off on VDI & Social marketing, or am I just missing something? VMware new team? Citrix don't slow down! Like many of you I get a lot of news, interesting links through friends on Social media like Twitter but it seems to be slowing.

And you thought dealing with the network or the storage team was tough.... Try legal, HR, and policy enforcement!

How is your company dealing with legal, HR, and other in this new world of virtualization, vdi, and data de-dupe.

The Marketing (and Industry) of VDI

VDI what is the definition? Citrix? VMware? Since customers are doing POC's and buying basically everything is VDI now. XenApp yep VDI.. XenDesktop yep VDI... View VDI... Microsoft RDS....Leostream.... VDI.... ETC!!! Marketing at it's best. My second choice for the title would have been "VDI: an IT stimulus package"

I know I might not be the best person to talk on this subject as it relates to the title but I always try to tell it how I see it, or at the very least be fair. But lately I am seeing plagiarism move past blogs and articles in our industry to CPA websites, Twitter and other mediums. Enough think for your self or give credit to the person who thought it!

What a great conversation we had on my article a few weeks/months back now. Last week I was able to get caught up with Citrix Systems' very own Dan Feller and Micheal Keen from Alliance Technologies. We had a casual conversation about the current state of VDI and current positioning.

Post up some comments here, let us know what you think. We cover use cases, VDI, what we are seeing, 3rd party bolt on tech like Liquidlabs, AppSense, and of course hit on VMware and Citrix.

The decision not to virtualize... or anything else for that matter.

How the economy is driving IT decisions in the hardest hit industries. Here is one example, of many I’m sure. I would love to hear some success stories of companies that were/are truly on the ragged edge of being no longer... but leveraged technology and made it through a truly tough time.

vBIOS Why not provide a small 32-Bit environment with tools on the vmdk or vdisk

A conversation about why VMware, XenServer, and the rest of the space simply emulate a BIOS when the advantages the opensource community is starting to produce at the BIOS level are clear. OpenFirmware & EFI was a step in the right direction, but did not go far enough.

Virtualization I get it (I even love it) but VDI....

With the current state of our server operating systems virtualization is critical. No question. VDI on the other hand is a genius marketing product that originated from VMware to gain market share from Citrix and Microsoft, and you know what? They did quite successfully in an industry Citrix was deeply entrenched in VMware made rapid inroads to Citrix's client base by bundling the product. Citrix had to dump a ton of cash into developing a VDI solution just to handle the buzz! Kudos to VMware on this.

I just wanted to start to "tee" things up, so this is a quick synopsis of where my mind is with desktop computing. I have a more comprehensive, business related document in the works but it needs lot's of work before posting it.

A Quick Introduction

For my first post, I thought I would provide you with some background, and maybe some insight as to why, or even if, you will care about what I write.
